Rivers Story

Once upon a magical time there was a little seed that grew into the most beautiful little soul, we later named him River. River was born September 12, 2016, but his story starts long before he was even born. River’s mom was not in the picture too much in the beginning. However, around when River was 10 months old, she started showing signs of wanting to be more of a part in his life. She fell in love with him and started wanting to get to know him. On November 26, 2017, River’s mother was taking care of him while his father worked from a nearby café, that’s when everything changed. River had a near-drowning accident in the bathtub, his heart stopped, and he had to be reanimated at the hospital. His MRI taken 3 days after the accident, showed significant brain injury and the doctors had no hope to give us. They painted a very dark picture for us and told us we should let River go and that he would never wake up or open his eyes again.

We did not listen to the doctors, we chose to believe and fight for River, so we prayed and began our therapy journey. After a month and a half, River began to slowly open his eyes slightly and he began moving his foot the tiniest bit. We are now at a point where River is out of the acute phase and no longer needs to be in the hospital every day. He now has his eyes fully open, can hold his head up when he tries and is moving more limbs creating core strength to help him later stand. There is still a long way to go as he has a tracheostomy and gtube and needs extensive care but we are hopeful that the therapies and treatments River is going through will help us get River to play as a little boy again. The story of River is the story of HOPE. The story of how against all odds, River rose to see another day and how we will continue to push as hard as we can to bring awareness for other parents who have children like River, who are suffering from brain injuries. Stay tuned for all the GLOWing changes in River’s life and to be a part of our FAMILY!
